What is Botox®?

Botox® is a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment that is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It is a type of injectable neurotoxin that works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles, resulting in a smoother, more youthful complexion. Botox® is a quick and convenient procedure that requires minimal downtime, making it a popular choice for individuals looking to rejuvenate their appearance without undergoing surgery. Additionally, Botox® has been FDA approved for safety and efficacy, ensuring that patients can trust the treatment to deliver the desired results.

What are the best areas to apply Botox®?

Botox is commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines in several areas of the face, including:

  • Forehead: Botox can smooth out wrinkles and lines across the forehead, helping to create a smoother and more youthful appearance.
  • Between the eyebrows (glabellar lines): Botox is commonly used to treat the “11” lines that form between the eyebrows.
  • Around the eyes (crows feet): Botox can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, also known as crows feet.
  • Mouth and chin: Botox can also be used to treat wrinkles around the mouth and chin, helping to create a more refined and youthful appearance.
  • Neck: Botox can be used to reduce the appearance of horizontal neck lines, giving the neck a smoother, more youthful appearance.

It's important to remember that the best places to apply Botox® will depend on the individual and their specific needs and concerns. A qualified professional should be consulted to determine the best course of treatment.

Botox® for Excessive Sweating and Migraines

Botox® is not just for cosmetic purposes; it can also be used to treat excessive sweating and migraines. Botox® for excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, works by temporarily blocking the sweat glands in the affected area, reducing sweat production and providing relief from excessive sweating. In the case of migraines, Botox® works by relaxing the muscles in the face and neck, reducing the severity and frequency of migraine headaches. Both treatments are performed quickly and effectively with minimal discomfort, making Botox® a versatile and convenient solution for a range of medical concerns. If you suffer from excessive sweating or migraines, speak with a qualified healthcare provider to see if Botox® may be the right solution for you.

How Much Botox Will I Need?

Clients often ask the question, "How many units of Botox will I need?" when considering their first treatment. The answer is not straightforward, as the amount of Botox required is dependent on multiple factors and varies from person to person. However, this is one of the benefits of Botox, as each treatment is customized to the individual.

The amount of Botox required can vary greatly based on the number of areas being treated and individual characteristics such as aesthetic goals, muscle strength, pre-existing wrinkles, face shape and size, and metabolism. For example, a person with a larger forehead and stronger muscle movements may need more Botox units compared to someone with a smaller forehead and weaker muscle movements. Additionally, the length of time Botox results last also depends on an individual's metabolism rate. A faster metabolism may require more frequent treatment.

In conclusion, the exact number of Botox units required for each person is unique and can only be determined by a qualified healthcare provider.

Dysport FAQs

What is Dysport?
Dysport is an injectable treatment that helps treat frown lines that are moderate to severe. At Halo, we use Dysport to refine natural beauty.
It’s made from the botulinum neurotoxin. Dysport is made from the same toxin that Botox is. It safely helps to stop the muscle movements that cause frown lines by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a type of neurotransmitter. What makes Dysport different is that it operates under its own special dosages.
What is it Like to Get the Injections?
Your Halo team member can go over what your treatment schedule will look like for what you’re are specifically working to treat. The procedure takes 10 to 20 minutes in many cases.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Dysport?
Typically, results are noticeable within 2 to 3 days. You will see an improvement in moderate to severe frown lines. One treatment can also last up to 4 months. Your Halo clinician can talk to you about maintenance treatments and what to expect for your exact treatment.
Does Dysport Have Any Side Effects?
Dysport can cause a number of side effects, like headache, pain at the injection site and nausea. Your Halo team member can walk you through any possible side effects and address any concerns you may have.

Xeomin FAQs

What is Xeomin?
Xeomin primarily helps improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Though at Halo, we use it to treat a variety of needs. It’s a treatment that’s injected right into the skin. It’s made from botulinum toxin type A, a protein from the bacterium clostridium botulinum (same as Botox).

Frown lines are caused by muscles between the eyebrows contracting as you frown or squint. As you age, your skin loses its elasticity, and then repeated movements cause frown lines. Xeomin affects nerve endings so that that muscles don’t contract. Since the muscles do not contract, the injections temporarily reduce those frown lines.

What is it Like to Get a Xeomin Treatment?
Treatments typically take about 10 to 20 minutes. The medicine is injected directly into the muscles in the forehead that cause the frown lines between eyebrows. There is no anesthesia, but your Halo team member may use a topical anesthetic or cold pack to make the procedure more comfortable.
When Will I See Results with Xeomin?
A visibly smoother area between the brows could happen as soon as 3 to 4 days after treatment. The typical patient sees results in less than a week. Some patients reported noticing a difference as long as 30 days after. Results lasted for up to 3 months in clinical trials, though individual results may vary. You Halo team member can discuss what type of results to expect in your individual case.
Does Xeomin Cause Side Effects?
Xeomin can cause serious allergic reactions, as well as headaches, muscle weakness and other side effects. Your Halo clinician can discuss possible side effects and address any concerns you might have.

What is the Difference Between Botox, Xeomin and Dysport?

What Are Each of Them Made Out Of?

Xeomin, Botox and Dysport are all made from the bacterium clostridium botulinum, which gets synthetized as the botulinum toxin type A in all three products. They have all been proven in clinical trials.

The main differences are in the manufacturing processes. Xeomin is different in that it only contains the toxin as an ingredient, which means the body is less likely to become resistant to it. Xeomin uses a “naked” molecule, meaning it has not had surface proteins added. Botox and Dysport have these added proteins, and people may have more risk of allergic reactions and rejections as a result. In rare cases, some patients can develop antibodies to Botox and Dysport.

Do Results Differ From Each One?

Yes, the three treatments can show results at different times. As far as when you see treatment results and for how long, the times are:

  • Botox: Results typically appear within 24 to 48 hours, lasting up to 4 months.
  • Dysport: Noticeable improvement appears within 2 to 3 days on moderate to severe frown lines, lasting up to 4 months.
  • Xeomin: Visible smoothing may be seen within 3 to 4 days at the earliest, lasting up to 3 months.

Results may vary by individual cases and what you are treating, so your Halo team member can walk you through what to expect with results for each treatment.

How Do the Treatments Work?

All three treatments work the same. They all temporarily paralyze the muscles on the face, which reduces frown lines and wrinkles.

Treatments typically target slightly different things. Botox typically works on both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet. Dysport and Xeomin are both used for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. At Halo, we use all three in a variety of treatments.

Dysport is known for spreading better, meaning fewer injection sites. It is often given as a second line of defense for patients who have stopped responding to Botox. Dysport can affect a slightly larger area than Botox and has a reputation of looking more natural as a result. Botox, on the other hand, may be used to target more specific and stubborn areas, like deeper wrinkling. Xeomin is typically called in for patients who are sensitive to added proteins.

Your Halo team member can further walk you through the differences between the three treatments and which one is the best option for you.

What Are the Side Effects Like Between Botox, Xeomin and Dysport?
Potential side effects tend to be the same between the three treatments, including rare cases of allergic reaction, headaches and drooping eyelids being the same between all three products. Because of fewer additives, however, Xeomin has less of a chance of allergic reactions. Your Halo clinician can talk to you about any concerns you may have regarding side effects.
Will Botox, Dysport and Xeomin Make Me Look Fake?
A common question people have is how fake they could look after treatments that restrict muscle movement and whether it would restrict the ability to show emotions. Your Halo team member can discuss any concerns you have about how the results will look and can tell you whether each treatment would be right for you.
